Needle-like, fine foliage is covered with sweetly scented white flower clusters in summer. Individual flowers have a deep purple throat. Foliage ages to yellow-orange in fall, and the long strands of seed pods give a decorative texture. Plants spread by runners, but can be easy controlled by pulling unwanted plants. Great butterfly nectar and important larval host plant of the monarch butterfly. Plants grow 1-2' tall.
