A popular tree grown for its brilliant red-orange fall color. Relatively fast growth rate and ability to grow in most soils makes this a great choice for any yard. Oval to round habit, matures to a height of 50-55' and a spread of 40'.
Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' (red maple)

Emerald green leaves in summer and persistent fall color that begins bright red and maturing to purple red. A seedless male with oval rounded form makes a great lawn or street tree. Slightly smaller mature size of 25 to 30 feet tall and 12 to 15 feet wide make this an excellent choice for smaller yards.

Red sunset maple trees are relatively fast growers, growing up to two feet per year until reaching their ultimate height of 40 to 60 feet. Sap can be used to make sugar, but is not as high quality as sugar maple trees. Fall foliage turns a beautiful crimson orange.

Native to Manchuria and Korea, this small shade tree grows 20' to 30' tall in the midwest. Great red fall color and gorgeous exfoliating bark in long, vertical strips.

Aesculus flava (yellow buckeye)

Yellow buckeye has dark green foliage which emerges light green, and bright spikes of lemon yellow flowers rising above the foliage in mid spring. Foliage turns an outstanding coppery bronze in fall. Yellow Buckeye will grow to be about 50 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 45 feet.Grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 80 years or more. Does best in full sun to partial shade, prefers average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. Not particular as to soil type or pH, it's somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Native to southwest North America.
Aesculus x carnea 'Briotii' (red horsechestnut)

Dark green foliage holds into fall. Very showy, scarlet red upright 10" flower panicles cover this tree from early spring and last for weeks. Among our favorite trees, we've planted one to the north of the old starburst sign.
Carpinus betula 'Frans Fontaine' (columnar European hornbeam)

This columnar hornbeam has branches growing in an upright, tightly pyramidal habit. Steel gray bark and deep green foliage give this highly adaptable tree value in the landscape. Throw any soil, temperature and light conditions at this tree and watch it grow! Matures to a height of 30-40', with a spread of 20'. Native to Europe and Asia Minor.
Carpinus caroliniana (American hornbeam, musclewood)

Slow growing trees, tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions, hornbeams respond well to pruning and are relatively disease and pest free. Trees grow 35' high with a spread of 25' and are pyramidal in habit. Fall foliage is yellow and mature bark is mottled. Hornbeams are native to the eastern half of North America and grow as understory trees. Nuts provide late season food for some gamebird species and squirrels.
Carya illinoinensis (pecan)

This massive shade tree is the pecan producer of the industry in the U.S. Lustrous, dark green foliage does not provide much fall color, but the nuts more than make up for this shortcoming. Best growth occurs in moist, well drained soil. It is native from Indiana and Iowa to Texas and Mexico. Grows 70-100' high with a spread of 40-75'. Larval host to the gray hairstreak.
Castanea mollissima 'Dunstan' Bond™ (Chinese chestnut)
