Jacobinia
This South American tropical makes a continuous display of pink flowers all year. Plants should be kept in shade through the summer, then an eastern or low light area indoors for the winter. Water regularly. They'll grow 3-4' high and wide, but should be cut back in spring to keep the form neat. Flower attract hummingbirds in summer. |

Ledebouria socialis 'Violacea'
The fleshy pointed-tipped leaves of this short (under 12") bulb are bright gray purple with green blotches above; the underside is all purple. On stalks 20-25 small flowers have greenish petals with white markings and purple stamens. Only water when in leaf; it goes semi-dormant during the summer. |

Meuhlenbeckia (angel ivy, wire vine)
This vigorous little plant makes a wonderful filler and foliage contrast plant in combo baskets and planters. Wire vine also makes a great topiary frame plant, and miniature fairy garden subject. Try some in the ground as a filler around annuals and perennials. |

Nashia inaguensis (Mojean tea)
A native of the Bahamas that's used to add vanilla flavor to tea. An excellent bonsai subject with small leaves and tiny white flowers. Plants grow 2-3' tall and wide. This non-hardy Zone 8 herb must be grown in a pot and brought indoors for the winter. |

Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla)
Popular tree kept indoors easily from year to year. Fine needles are short, and branches are eas to trim as needed to keep in shape. Pest-free and not picky about water or light. |

Sanchezia speciosa 'Ellen'
A 6-8' semiwoody evergreen shrub with smooth bright green or purple stems, large variegated leaves and colorful flowers. Leaves grow up to a foot in length, opposite on the stems and marked with prominent, well defined yellow or ivory veins. The tubular flowers are yellow with red bracts, about 2" long. In tropical climates, sanchezia blooms throughout most of the year. Sanchezia speciosa is native to northeastern Peru and Equador, where it grows in the humid understory of tropical rainforests, so plants should be placed where they can receive light, dappled shade. While they don't tolerate full sun, bright indirect light is best to bring out variegated foliage. Sanchezia needs a lot of water, so keep soil moderately moist through the growing season. Reduce water in winter. In the house or greenhouse, sanchezia will do best in a humid atmosphere. |

Sansevieria trifasciata (mother-in-law's tongue)
This is perhaps the most indestructable houseplant on the entire planet. Perfect for that place that needs some green, but just doesn't have light or other necessary conditions. Also nice as a tall, spiky element in a combination planter. |

Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar'
A colorful houseplant that moves through the day, following the sunlight. This Brazilian plant must be allowed to dry out between waterings while indoors in winter, and will thrive when moved outdoors for the summer months. Plants grow 20-24" tall and around. Keep in bright but indirect light. Plants will sunburn easily, whether indoors or out.
