2007 was the year of the recycled mini blind. Our friend from Global Homes made a great structure from cast off construction 1" x 1". From the frame, Doug came up with the mini blind attachments, as well as wiring to hold up recycled screen ornaments, icicles and lights. The multi light strand was powered by green tag energy carbon offsets from Zephyr-Bonneville Energy. Amy recycled an old cast off acrylic painting from the KU Art Department and applied recycled can lids, metal cut outs and green fringe to make the skirt. It fetched $900.
Our 2006 entry was a team effort! Our friends at Global Homes, Inc constucted a sculptural tree made of recycled copper and aluminum, which was decorated with ornaments made of recycled screen and garland by Vinland Valley Nursery, covered with popcorn and dried fruit as bird food by Operation WildLife and completed with holiday lights powered by Green Tag Energy from Bonneville Environmental Foundation -- Zephyr Energy! The end result was an $850 sale.
Our 2005 entry was a wreath made of fresh evergreens from trees grown at Vinland Valley Nursery and decorated with the flags of every nation on the planet, encircling a peace sign made from the forked branch of a red-twigged dogwood. The wreath raised $120 for The Shelter, Inc.
