Aesculus turbinata (Japanese horsechestnut)
This white flowering Japanese horsechesnut has superior resistance to summer leaf scorch common in Aesculus species. June flowers are appreciated by hungry bees, and seeds ripen in September. This tree grows happily in sandy, loamy and heavy clay soils but requires well-drained soil in partial shade to full sun. Matures to a height of 60 feet and a width of 30-40 feet. |

Prunus maackii (Amur chokecherry)
Prunus maacki is a densely branching, rounded tree, growing 35 to 45 feet tall. White 2-3" long racemes of flowers bloom in late spring, although this tree is not usually grown for its flowers. A multitude of tiny, red-black fruits ripen on the tree in late summer. Bark is beautiful and ranges in color from cinnamon-brown to yellow-brown. Sometimes the bark is shed in shaggy masses, sometimes it is relatively smooth. Requires well drained soil. Introduced into cultivation in 1878. |

Cryptomeria japonica 'Yoshino' (Japanese cedar)
This is a fast growing pyramidal evergreen with blue-green foliage through the summer turning to bronze for winter. Trees reach a height of 35-40' and a spread of 20-30'. A good choice for a fast-growing privacy screen planting, especially in a large scale mixed planting where diversity makes a healthier landscape. Hardy in zones 5-9. |

Physocarpus opulus 'Summer Wine' (ninebark)
Black-purple foliage is topped with soft pink blooms. Hardy and drought tolerant like other ninebarks, shrubs should be cut back from time to time to keep their form neat and dense, but should be pruned immediately following summer bloom to avoid removing next year's flower buds. Unpruned, shrubs grow 5-6' tall with a spread of 4-5'. Hardy to zone 3. |

Physocarpus opulus 'Mindia' (Coppertina ninebark)
A cross between the golden ninebark 'Dart's Gold' and the purple leaf ninebark 'Diabolo' , resulting in a plant with stunning orange-copper spring foliage, aging to rich red as it matures into the summer. White blooms in summer contrast with foliage. Like other ninebarks, Coppertina is also noted for its attract exfoliating bark and red seed capsules in autumn. Shrubs grow 8-10' high with a 5-6' spread. Zone 3 cold hardy. |

Fineline buckthorn combines the feathery foliage of 'Aspenifolia' with the narrow upright habit of 'Columnaris.' Use in narrow hedgerows for privacy, as an accent plant, or even in a patio container. It's a great vertical accent for the perennial garden, and the narrow habit is perfect for framing entrances. This is an extremely useful, architectural plant for the home or commercial landscape.
