| Striking 18-24" tall spikes with blue flowers from late summer to early fall when few other flowers are in bloom. Each individual flower is shaped like a little helmet or hood, giving the plant its common name of monkshood. Strong stems do not not require staking, making this plant a great choice over delphiniums. Distinctive deeply divided, dark green glossy foliage is pretty even when the plant is not in bloom. Prefers part shade, especially afternoon shade, but will tolerate more sun given more moisture and rich soil. |
